We see the Light

Have you ever walked in the dark – really dark – unsure of your footing, stumbling over roots or uneven ground, heart a little tense because you can’t quite see what’s ahead? Then suddenly, a light appears. A friend clicks on a flashlight and starts walking toward you. Relief washes over you. You don’t have to strain anymore. You can see. You can move forward with confidence.

Our world is full of shadows – confusion, temptation, grief, self-reliance dressed up as wisdom. Without God’s light, people stumble through spiritual blackness, taking wrong turns, mistaking pleasure for purpose, and ignoring the danger of living disconnected from their Creator. But God does not leave us there. He promises: “I will turn the darkness into light before them and make
the rough places smooth. … I will not forsake them”
(Isaiah 42:16).

God’s Word is that flashlight in the night. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). It doesn’t always reveal the whole road at once – but it gives enough light for the next faithful step. As His Word unfolds, it gives light and understanding, leading us not just out of confusion, but into joy in His presence (Psalm 16:11). And it doesn’t just brighten the darkness; it helps us see reality as it truly is. Jesus is the ultimate light: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). When we walk in His light – obeying, trusting, staying close – we are cleansed, transformed, and drawn into fellowship with Him and one another (1 John 1:7).

So where do you need light today? Instead of striving to figure it all out, pause and step into His presence. Let God meet you in your darkness, open His Word, and trust His light to guide your next step. You don’t need the whole path – just the willingness to follow where His light leads.
