Long-Term Program for Addiction

If you struggle with an addiction or a substance abuse disorder, the good news is that there’s hope. All you have to do is take the first step and reach out for help. Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada’s long-term recovery program is a suitable combination of addiction treatment models with a faith-based approach.  In our professional experience, it has provided a 78% success rate for overcoming addiction and beginning a new life.

You can be assured of a safe and supportive environment while receiving the treatment and therapy you need to get your life back on track. Our team of addiction specialists, faith-based leaders and an everlasting community ensures every aspect of your addiction is addressed.

We believe that real change comes from what God can do on the inside of us. If you are interested in recovery, Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada is the place for you.

While there are multiple effective approaches to addiction, such as inpatient and outpatient treatment, long-term addiction treatment programs have the greatest statistics for a successful recovery process. Addiction treatment has come a long way, and today’s treatment programs treat both substance abuse and the underlying drivers of addiction, while instilling values, balance and faith.

Understanding the Long-Term Program

Full-service long-term live-in addiction treatment programs allow clients to engage in a series of evidence-based therapies on-site. Offering comfort and privacy from the outside world, clients are able to fully focus on recovery in a safe space.

Therapists, Phase Managers, Counsellors, Pastors and Ministry Staff are on hand around the clock to provide the necessary support. This includes a series of recreational activities aimed at promoting the development of healthy coping mechanisms and encouraging fellowship between clients.  Additionally, we will guide our clients in job skills training, like workplace certifications programs and resume building.

Is this program the same as IOP?

Long-term programs may be thought of as intensive inpatient treatment (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) due to their use of long-term stays, but they go a step further by allowing guests to reside at the centers for 12-18 months. Consistent substance abuse treatment from the same team throughout the program is the standard Adult & Teen Challenge is looking to set, as drug abuse is a growing concern in Canada.

Benefits of the Long Term Program for Addiction

In contrast with short-term programs and outpatient treatment, long-term treatment goes one step further, steeping patients in an environment conducive to healing the mind, body and soul. At Adult & Teen Challenge, we aim to change that through the compassionate and goal-oriented approach we take in our addiction treatment.

What we See as a Benefit

Experience has taught us we all need to “own” the responsibility for our thoughts, choices, and life patterns. Painful experiences and complex trauma can contribute to life-controlling addiction but cannot be a reason for remaining in addiction. Within our long-term program, we will help you to take a responsible look at your life so that healing can occur.  This along with many other teaching moments will help you learn valuable lessons and guide positivity in your life. Your negative experiences do not need to dictate your future.

Clients are able to come to terms with the root of the problem and understand the unhealthy behaviors that lead to substance abuse. The focus is on awareness, respect and honesty. Recovery is about breaking through the cycle of unhealthy behavior, and to this end, clients will be guided to form healthy coping mechanisms and regain a sense of peace in their lives.

When Do You Need a Long-Term Program?

Whether you’re concerned about a new illicit drug causing addiction or one that’s been around for years, here are some simple questions to ask yourself or a loved one you’re worried about to see if our long-term program is the best next step.

  • Have you participated in a short-term rehabilitation program only to return to your old habits?
  • Do you know the root cause of your addiction?
  • Have you lost faith in yourself in God?
  • Has your addiction impacted your personal relationships?
  • Are you surrounded by people who encourage your substance abuse?
  • Has your performance at school or work suffered due to drug or alcohol abuse?
  • Does your focus stay on drugs, alcohol or other substances instead of other responsibilities?

If you answered yes to any of these, we encourage you to reach out to the Adult & Teen Challenge team to discuss your options in a confidential consultation.

Components of the Long Term Program

Personal Studies for New Life in Christ (PSNL)

PSNL is a personalized course of study which is geared to each individual in the program.

With a general structure which includes Bible lessons, Bible reading, Scripture memorization, character qualities and personal application goals, PSNL covers a wide array of topics. Some of the many topics we cover include salvation, self-image, spiritual growth, family relationships and work and responsibility.

Each client has a custom learning plan they are working on all the way through the program. The client’s mentor meets with them weekly to check in regarding their learning plan and to process anything that comes up.

Group Studies for New Life in Christ (GSNL)

Clients engage in GSNL class several times a week.  This is an opportunity for clients to work through issues in a group discussion class where they can share and glean from others.

Our GSNL curriculum covers many topics pertinent to freedom from addiction including personal relationships with others, attitudes, growing through failure, anger & personal rights, and love and accepting myself.

GSNL is a great time for clients to work on building friendships with one another and to learn how to hear feedback from others.
