Are You Feeling Like Gideon Today?

Judges 6:11-40 NLT

Are you feeling like Gideon today?

Are you standing in a place where you think you know what God is asking of you, but part of you is still saying, “Lord, could You just show me one more time?”

When God called Gideon, Gideon wasn’t confident. He had questions. He looked at his circumstances, his limitations, and everything that could go wrong.

Yet God called him:

“The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
Judges 6:12

I love that God called Gideon a mighty warrior before Gideon felt like one.

Still, Gideon wanted confirmation. He famously put out a fleece, asking God first to make the fleece wet and the ground dry and then the opposite. God patiently met Gideon in his uncertainty.

There are times when we need to seek confirmation too. We pray. We search Scripture. We ask for wisdom and seek godly counsel. There is nothing wrong with wanting to know that we are following God rather than simply following our own desires.

But eventually, Gideon had to pick up the fleece and move.

Sometimes we keep asking God for another sign when He may have already made the next step clear.

Lord, open another door.

Give me another confirmation.

Make me completely certain.

But faith doesn’t always come with complete certainty.

Gideon’s confidence wasn’t supposed to be in himself. God’s promise to him was simple:

“I will be with you.”
Judges 6:16

Maybe that is what you need to remember today.

You don’t need every answer. You don’t need to know how everything will work out. And you don’t have to feel completely fearless.

There is a time to pray, test, seek wisdom, and wait.

And there is a time to trust God and move.

Reflection

Am I still seeking God’s direction or has He already made the next step clear and I am afraid to take it?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being patient with me when I am uncertain. Give me wisdom to recognize Your direction and courage to move when You make the next step clear. Help me remember that my confidence doesn’t have to be in myself. I can trust Your promise: You will be with me. Amen.
