On the Journey Devotional
Scripture:
Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
There was a time when I felt like everything I did had to prove something. I would say yes to things I didn’t have the energy for, push myself to be “better,” and constantly wonder if I was doing enough to be accepted—by others, and even by God.
I thought if I could just serve more, do more good, and be more consistent, then maybe I’d finally feel secure. But instead of feeling fulfilled, I just felt tired. No matter how much I did, it never felt like enough.
Over time, God began to shift my perspective. I realized I wasn’t called to work for His approval – I already had it. The pressure to perform started to fall away when I understood that my worth wasn’t based on what I did, but on who I belonged to.
Reflection
It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we have to earn God’s love. But the truth is, we are not saved by good works—we are saved for good works. Our actions don’t secure our identity; they flow from it.
God calls us His handiwork—His masterpiece. That means you were intentionally designed, not just to exist, but to live out a purpose already prepared for you.
But here’s the key: our works only reflect God’s heart when they are rooted in love. As 1 Corinthians 16:14 reminds us, “Let all that you do be done in love.”
Without love, even the “right” actions miss the point. Love is what transforms duty into devotion, obligation into worship.
Application
Today, shift your focus:
Don’t ask, “What do I have to do?”
Ask, “How can I love through what I do?”
Whether it’s helping someone, encouraging a friend, or doing something unnoticed—let love be your motivation, not recognition or obligation.
Prayer
God, thank You for creating me with purpose. Help me to remember that I don’t have to earn Your love. Teach me to walk in the good works You’ve prepared for me, and let everything I do be rooted in love. Shape my heart so that my actions reflect Yours. Amen.
Closing Thought
You’re not working for approval—you’re working from it. So go and love well today.
